Jan Tagg
Jan has always loved drawing. She remembers sitting on the top step of the stairs unravelling a roll of Izal lavatory paper, drawing on each sheet, the finished work cascading down the stairs.
Jan went to Art School at sixteen and studied printed textiles and lithography. She trained as an art teacher in Birmingham where she met her painter husband Bob. They moved to Loughborough. Bob taught at the Art College and and Jan at the FE College. At this time she did little of her own work. When she saw etchings produced in the Art College and met printmakers in the pub with ink on their fingers, she felt very envious.
In 2004 Jan joined Sudbourne Park Printmakers led by Gareth Jones and felt an instant rapport.
Many of Jan’s prints are inspired by fairytales, myths and legends and the inherent qualities of disquiet and mystery they evoke. She is influenced by West African and Indian Art and Textiles depicting animals, birds and trees. She is fascinated by the Assyrian Relief Sculptures in the British Museum and the Louvre. These sculptures have been the basis for many of her etchings.
She has exhibited widely, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
