John Garrett
Stacks Image 183
John is a retired chartered engineer who came to print making through woodturning. Encouraged by the “buzz” of fellow artists at Sudbourne, he has worked with lino, Soft Cut and wood slices, though mostly works with ply for his woodcuts. He particularly enjoys creating portraits from photographs, exploring the challenge of making monochrome designs from grey-scale or colour images.

A member of the British Printing Society, he helped a fellow Sudbourne member print a limited edition book of her etchings combined with quotations in letterpress text and a woodcut printed on cloth for the cover. He is now working on prints of east coast rivers, their sailing craft and also horse-drawn farm machines.

He has exhibited works at Aldeburgh, Framlingham, Snape and Sudbourne and sells prints and woodturning via his Etsy shop at
www.etsy.com/shop/lathecraft and on www.artfinder.com/john-garrett
