Jan Jefferies

A former Classical Musician, Jan Jefferies retrained as an artist graduating with a degree in Fine Art in 2008 from Norwich School of Art and Design and an MA in Photographic Studies in 2010 from Norwich University College of the Arts. Her experience as a musician underpins how she feels things in terms of rhythm and space, as an embodiment of visual music. She is interested in the relationships between colour, form and space and uses different shapes and colours in juxtaposition in order to explore the effects of these elements. By using geometric form, it gives her parameters to follow in what can sometimes be an overwhelming visual field and noisy world. It relates a sense of calmness and order into which she can interpret deeply felt experiences and concentrated seeing. Whilst developing her work through minimalist abstraction, as a relief and etching printmaker, she also uses different materials to interpret the subjects she wishes to explore in other mediums.
